Malaysia medal is victory for Express campaigners
REGARDING the article in the Daily Express about the Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal (“Medals at last for the forgotten war heroes”, December 28), I congratulate the Daily Express and its staff who have been involved in bringing about such a great result regarding this medal and that of the Arctic Convoy veterans. It is a tremendous achievement.
I have been following your campaign with great interest and hope that you would indeed win the day for those who served in Malaysia. I served with 32 Sqn, 8 Engineer Regt in Borneo in 1965.
I would be proud to receive the medal from the Malaysian government and to wear the same with great pride. Once again, congratulations and many thanks.

All the heroes who fought rebels deserve an honour
I READ with great interest the article about the issuing of medals to those Commonwealth soldiers who served between 1957 and 1966. I think that these dates are invalid as the actual dates of the emergency were June 1948 until July 1960.
I have a vested interest, as my father Ernest (Mick) Rumsby served with 45 Royal Marine Commando in the region from 1951-1953.
I would hope that the dates you quoted are indeed incorrect or else we have more forgotten war heroes than first thought.
