Najib Arrives For Weeklong Visit To UK

LONDON, July 17 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived here for a weeklong visit to the United Kingdom to attend the Farnborough International Airshow 2006 (FIAS 06) and hold meetings with several British ministers.

On hand to receive him at the Heathrow International Airport were Malaysian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Datuk Abd Aziz Mohammed and several other Malaysian senior government officials.

Najib will spend two days from tomorrow at the FIAS 06 where he will visit the exhibition as well as hold several meetings with ministers and corporate leaders.

Malaysian Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Zainal Abidin Ahmad said Najib will have a meeting with Minister For Defence Procurement Lord Paul Drayson tomorrow.

Zainal said Najib will also meet Secretary of State for Defence Desmond Browne, and witness the signing of a landing rights agreement between the governments of Malaysia and Italy. The biennial Farnborough International Airshow is one of the world's largest aerospace events, attracting exhibitors from more than 30 countries and over 130,000 trade visitors.

It will be held for a week from tomorrow at the Farnborough Aerodrome in Hampshire, outside London.

Najib is also scheduled to confer the "Pingat Jasa Malaysia" (JPM) award on 40 British veteran servicemen, comprising 30 ex-army personnel and 10 ex-police personnel, at a ceremony at the Malaysian High Commission in Belgrave Square, here.

The PJM is an award conferred by the Malaysian government to honour the distinguished services and sacrifices of the armed forces and security groups from several Commonwealth countries who had served in Malaysia during the second Emergency and Confrontation periods

Najib Leaves For UK

 

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Sunday left to United Kingdom for a five day visit.

Najib, with a tight itinerary, is expected to attend the annual Farnborough Air Show and meet key figures in the defence industry.

While there he will extend invitation to the key defence players to participate in the Langkawi International Maritime and Air Show (LIMA) next year.

A statement from the Deputy Prime Minister's office said while there, Najib is expected to meet Britain's new Defence Secretary Des Browne and they are expected to exchange views on the recent developments in West Asia.

Najib would also bestow `Pingat Jasa Malaysia' (PJM) to British soldiers who served in Malaya and Borneo.
