Last year, I wrote to Royal British Legion Leamington Spa (where my in-laws live) pointing out that 14247304 Private J J H ('Jack') Godfrey, an army cook (ACC) attached to King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, was not on the town's war memorial. He was killed in a roadside ambush on the Kroh-Klian-Intan Road on 3 Dec1949 along with three other soldiers from KOYLI. (My father served with KOYLI & knew two of those killed but not Pte Godfrey.)  I can now report that the Town Council has agreed to add Pte Godfrey's name to the war memorial. (A younger brother was killed in 1944 & his name is already on the memorial.)

The graves of the 7 Hussars killed in the skirmish. Lt Questier is at far end.

Anthony Morris is researching in detail the ambush of 4th Hussars A squadron at Sungai Siput, Perak on the 31st Dec 1948.

Anthony has  clear digital photos of the headstones of everyone of those buried in Batu Gajah. Any veteran or next of kin may request one and he will send it, on request, directly. It is a small gesture for the ultimate sacrifice of their comrade in arms and kin. The digital photos are free of charge for them.

This years remembrance ceremony at Batu Gajah is slated for 9th June 2007. I think someone overlooked the fact that the 16th of June this year falls exactly on a Saturday.

If you can help Anthony in his research or would like to take him up on his very generous offer please contact him  morrismusic@gmail.com

You may or may not have heard about the British War Memorial Project which has been in operation for just over two years now www.wargraves.org.uk . The aims of the project are to photograph every individual service persons grave or memorial from WW1 to present day. Your members might like to know that we have just put over 1000 graves from Kranji on the website and have many throughout Malaysia in our archives waiting to go on. Out of approximately 2.5 million graves to photograph around the world we do already have over 80 000 but as a purely voluntary organisation it all depends on our 500 volunteers who are spread worldwide. Should any of your members be interested in helping us and so get their friends and colleagues memorials onto a virtual war memorial all help would be appreciated. Please take the time too look at the site.
 Many thanks
