Graves of Servicemen who died during the Malaya Emergency 1948-1960

Many of them died on the mainland fighting communist terrorists in the early days of the campaign

The Plaque which is 7’x 12’ of black granite stone was erected in 2000.

This was arranged by the Secretary of the KOYLI Regimental Association

(Tom Morgan) along with contributions from other Regimental Associations

 

The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry served in North Malaya from 1947until late 1951 when they were relieved by the 1st Bn. Manchester Regiment and were the only British Infantry Battalion in Malaya at the start of the Emergency on the 16th June 1948

They have 9 men buried in this cemetery, 5 in the Christian Cemetery Taiping

11 in Gods Little Acre Christian Cemetery Batu Gajah, 1 in the Cheras Road Christian Cemetery K.L.

2 in Kranji Military Cemetery Singapore and 3 where their remains were cremated. 2 are buried in the CWG Cemetery Taiping having died in an accident on the 11.11.1947
