Lest Brum forgets

Old soldiers marched beside those who still serve in the forces to remember the thousands of Birmingham people who lost their lives in war.

Centenary Square and the Hall of Memory was thronged with families who came to remember grandparents, friends and family in a sombre service of remembrance.

As a single round of rifle fire sounded at 11am, the square fell silent for two minutes while people remembered the fallen heroes.

Wreaths were laid outside the Hall of Memory in a solemn parade by members of the RAF, the Army, the Royal Navy, ex-service groups, the War Widows Association, cadets, councillors and MPs.

Veteran Frederick Smith made the journey from his home in Leicester to be with other comrades of his Birmingham-based regiment the Seventh Queen’s Own Hussars.

Do you have any photos of your local parades?  They would be nice to share with others.
