I have been the President of the British United
Services Club of Los Angeles for the past three years . We were formed in 1935
to foster friendship between British Commonwealth Armed Services personnel and
American Services. We are very active although dwindling in numbers!
Please advise any of your members who might be
living in this area to contact me as we would like to invite them to a Dining
in.
I was with 21 SAS and went to Malaysia in 1966
and was at the Jungle Warfare School ,in Kota Tingi and with Lt Col John Cross
when he handed over the School to the Malays, I was later in Brunei at the
subsequent school at Tutong.I was also with the Royal HK Regt for 10 years
before moving to Los Angeles, ending a Major, Officer Commanding Training
Wing.
I do not fully fit your profile but have many
friends who were involved. My father was RAF and Air Officer Commanding-
Hong Kong 65-67
I noticed that the SAS are not on your list of
units and I feel despite the point about parent Regts -I think they should be
recognized as a unit.
I would like to have some connection with your
organization. Our members are involved in a number of annual commemorations,
eg ANZAC Day etc.
Look forward to hearing from you as I feel it is
important to link all those that have shared in the experience of the British
Military and the traditions.
Regards,
Stuart Bird-Wilson
